Roth winner Andi Dreitz starts again in the Home of Triathlon
Home game for the 2019 winner
The winner of DATEV Challenge Roth 2019, Andi Dreitz, is returning to the Home of Triathlon this year. The 36-year-old athlete, known for his outstanding cycling performance, is back on the start line on 6 July to face the international competition.
Dreitz has had some problems with injuries in recent years and wants to be back at the front of the field this year: ‘I'm really looking forward to being able to really step on the gas again in my home country - after some difficult years, I finally found my way back in the middle of last year and got a long-term injury under control and am ready to attack again.’
Dreitz also wants to utilise his home advantage as a native of Franconia and Nuremberg by choice: ‘What could be better than competing in Franconia with many top triathlon stars and talents in front of the world's best audience and chasing new best times?’
The fact that the new dad likes Roth was demonstrated by his triumph in 2019: ‘If the “youngsters” want tips on how to win here, they are welcome to ask - I won't give the wrong advice; but if you know better anyway - it's your own fault.’
Dreitz won the race in 2019 in 7:53:23, following a second place in 2018. In 2024, he finished third at Ironman Malaysia and Ironman Chattanooga.
