The Race - Rules and Competition briefings

What are the basic rules?

The following rules are valid during the whole competition day. Acceptance and compliance is a basic requirement for participation in the event.

 

- Announcement of the organizer
- General terms and conditions for participants
- Competition regulations of the organizer
- Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) - on the entire bike course
- Competition regulations of the German Triathlon Union (DTU) - incl. Anti-Doping-Code, Sports Regulations, Legal and Procedural Regulations, Disciplinary Regulations etc.

Where and how can I protest against decisions of the judges?

- In writing from the start of the race at penalty@challenge-roth.de
- In person on Monday from 09:00 - 09:30 a.m. in the press center (Triathlon-Park Roth) at the competition management or the referee court.

Can a relay swimmer be under 18?

YES, we adhere to the DTU sports regulations here. The swimmer must be at least 14 years old.

Can a hydration pack be worn during the race?

YES, it may be worn while cycling and running.
Important! It must be worn over the one-piece swimsuit.

Can a relay team consist of two participants?

YES, a relay team can consist of two participants.

Are there any running shoes that are prohibited in competition (as is the case in marathons, for example)?

NO, all running shoes are permitted, as this is not regulated in the sport regulations.

Am I allowed to wear headphones during the competition?

NO, communication devices that are likely to distract from the competition are not permitted. This includes the use of headphones/earbuds, bone conduction headphones etc. for all disciplines.

Can I wear a cooling vest?

YES, it may be worn while cycling and running.
Important! It must be worn over the one-piece suit.

Can I wear a swimsuit/swimskin if neoprene is prohibited?

YES, under the following conditions: It must not cover any parts of the body below the elbows or below the knees.
It must not create buoyancy when wearing a wetsuit.
Cold protection suits and swimsuits must not be worn on top of each other.

Am I allowed to wear neoprene gloves or neoprene shoes?

NO, wearing them is prohibited.
Exception: If competitors have to wear neoprene gloves or neoprene shoes for health reasons, they may only start after consultation with the competition director and organizers.

When do I need a day license?

Individual starters need a day license if they do not have a valid start pass from their national triathlon association. The day license is an association fee charged by the BTV.

Do I need a start pass as a relay participant?

NO, relay participants do not need a start pass or day license.

The Race - Pre-swim start

When will I know if I am allowed to swim with a wetsuit or if there is a neoprene ban?

The water temperature will be measured by the competition jury one hour before the competition along the competition route at a depth of 60 cm.

The lowest temperature measured is the official water temperature and will be announced by the race director with the resulting consequences (wetsuits prohibited, permitted, or mandatory).
We will publish the trends on our social media channels in the days leading up to the race.

1) Is there an athlete shuttle from Roth to the swim start?

Yes, there is an athlete shuttle!

Important: The shuttle is free of charge - but must be booked at the information desk!

2) Where and when does the shuttle leave?

Departure point: Roth school center - Belmbracher Straße, 91154 Roth, Germany

Departure times: 04:20, 04:40, 05:00, 05:20, 05:40

3) Where can I park my car at the swim start?

Parking information can be found here

Parking fee: 3,00 Euro
(100% will be donated for charitable purposes)

 

4) When can I enter the transition area?

The transition area opens at 05:00.

Important: Once you have entered the transition area, you cannot leave it again before the start!

The race

1) What do I have to pay attention to during the race?

- Wearing the provided swimming cap is compulsory and you have to go to the start check-in at least 5 minutes before your start time.
- In case of a race abandonment during the swim you have to sign out with a marshal of the water rescue service and a race director/employee of the company mika:timing in transition zone 1
- The start number must be worn on the back during cycling and on the front during running and must always be clearly recognizable.
- During the cycling the rules of the road traffic regulations are valid

2) What should I do if I have to give up during the race?
  • If you have to give up the race before the swim in the pre-start area, you must sign out with a referee and at the information desk in transition zone 1.
  • If you give up the race during the swim, you must sign out with a water guard marshal and the judges.
  • If you have to give up on the bike course by phone, contact the aid stations, the race directors or the referees. There will be four recovery teams on the bike course - please be visible to our recovery team to avoid unnecessary waiting time. After the race you have to hand in your transponder in transition area 2.
3) What kind of nutrition will be offered on the course?

- Aid stations on the bike course are approx. every 17.5km and on the run course every 1.5km.
- You have the possibility to get your own food from your own helpers up to 100m after each aid station on the bike and run course (except aid station forest Roth - Büchenbach).

4) What does my relay team have to consider additionally?

- Each relay team will receive a transponder for timekeeping. This transponder has the additional function of a relay baton and must be passed on by the relay participants themselves.
- Relay teams can meet between the railroad tracks and the "Seniorenanlage Augustinum" (approx. 500m before the finish) and run together to the finish.

Prize money at DATEV Challenge Roth

The top finishers at DATEV Challenge Roth receive a total of 160,200 euros in prize money. The prize money is divided equally between the genders.

For ambitious age groupers: sub 9 or sub 10 classification, in which fast men and women get their entry fee back.
