The World Champions enjoy the Solarer Berg
Frodeno and Ryf leave their pursuers behind

Solarer Berg in Hilpoltstein is considered the mountain of all mountains in the triathlon world. Thousands of spectators stand five rows deep for over a kilometer on the race course waiting, while BAYERN 3 DJ, Tom Glas heats things up. BAYERN 3 speaker, Andre Siems, responsible for reporting all the important information from the course will greet each and every athlete that has to pass the mountain twice together with the Mayor of Hilpoltstein, Markus Mahl and Rodger Böll.

Motorcycles and flashing lights indicate the presence of the first biker, world champion, Jan Frodeno and he is literally flying over the course. He has reached the Solarer Berg after only two hours and 27 minutes with a smile on his face and his head up in the clouds. The wall of spectators opens in front of him allowing him to pass through a small gap as the people’s chants “push” him upwards. The atmosphere here gives one goosebumps!

It takes another five minutes before the chaser group, consisting of Tyler Butterfield, Nick Kastelein and last year’s champion, Nil Frommhold, reach the mountain of mountains. The crowd is going wild!

The women’s field is also very fast with world champion, Daniela Ryf cycling away on her first start in Roth and reaching the Solarer Berg in just two hours and 40 minutes! The Swiss athlete was able to put a five minute distance between herself and her pursuers. Last year’s champion, Yvonne van Vlerken, local athlete, Anja Beranek and Carrie Lester of Australia are all chasing behind Ryf.
