Meeting of the world champions in Roth
Anne Haug to join Jan Frodeno at DATEV Challenge Roth 2020

The celebrations continue in Roth: following the announcement Jan Frodeno will race, current world champion Anne Haug has now also confirmed her start at DATEV Challenge Roth on 5 July 2020 putting both reigning Hawaii winners on the start line.

Anne Haug, currently the best female triathlete in the world, is a local heroine from Bayreuth and now, after her triumph in Kona, wants to fulfil her dream of a podium finish in her Franconian homeland. For the likeable 36-year-old, who is also a two-time Olympian and current German long distance triathlon record holder this has not yet been possible. Anne Haug, who captivated the entire triathlon world with her victory at the Ironman Hawaii in October, is excited about her first start at DATEV Challenge Roth:

"I am really happy to finally be able to start at DATEV Challenge Roth! For me as a Bayreuth local, it is almost my home race and has been on my wish list for a long time, for a very special reason: Roth was the first triathlon that I saw live and which sparked my passion for triathlon. The race is one of the most important and best-known long distances worldwide with a legendary reputation. To stand on the podium here is a huge dream of mine, and I will give it my all!”

It wasn't until 2018 that Anne Haug switched from short and medium-distance to long-distance triathlon; when she first raced Hawaii, she promptly took third place. A year later, in October 2019, she won the famous race, winning the Ironman Hawaii as the first German ever and in the third fastest time in the history of the competition.

For Felix Walchshöfer, organizer of DATEV Challenge Roth, the two triathlon world champions have made a dream come true shortly before Christmas: "I can hardly believe that after Jan Frodeno, our Franconian Hawaii winner Anne Haug decided to race with us! This is hugely exciting for us, and also great recognition for the triathlon district. Seeing the two triathlon world champions here in Roth at the same time is a first for DATEV Challenge Roth and I can promise that the race on 5 July will go down in triathlon history! ”
