Bavarian Medal of Honour for services to the sport
Interior and Sports Minister, Joachim Herrmann, honours Walchshöfer family

Today the Walchshöfer family, organisers of the world’s largest long distance triathlon, DATEV Challenge Roth, received the Medal of Honour for services to Bavarian sport, presented by Bavaria's Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann. The presentation to Alice and Felix Walchshöfer and Kathrin Walchshöfer-Helneder was made at a ceremony at the Schwabach Markgrafensaal.

The Medal of Honour is in recognition of the promotion of sports in Bavaria and a thank you from the Bavarian State Government.  Recipients who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to sport are nominated by Bavarian sports federations.

On receiving the award, the Walchshöfer family said, "We are extremely honored by this prestigious Bavarian award. We accept them on behalf of all our supporters and over 7,000 volunteers, without whom the delivery of the event would not be possible. We are particularly honoured to have received the medal of honour from Minister of State, Joachim Herrmann, who has frequently visited our triathlon event as the representative of the Bavarian Prime Minister. We thank the State of Bavaria very much for this great honour, which continues to strengthen and inspire us in our efforts for the sport of triathlon."
