Mirinda Carfrae fastest woman in Roth
Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae flew around the run course despite the high temperatures. Similar to the men’s race, she caught up to the leading lady after the bike split, Rachel Joyce, at the 30km mark of the marathon and then continued to run towards the finish at the Festplatz in Roth. After 8:38:53 she crossed the finish line and was thrilled about the atmosphere. “I am over the moon, the support was better than I have ever seen. What an awesome race. I have never experienced anything like that! You come here and it is kind of a sleepy town but then it builds and builds. The people here love our sport and you can see that everywhere.”
Rachel Joyce finished in second place after 8:42:25 hours. This was a repeat of the finish in Hawaii 2013. “I am a bit tired but also very happy. Of course this result reminds me of last October but I kept motivating myself on the course and I am very happy now.”
Last year’s winner Caroline Steffen finished in third place with a time of 8:48:42. She said: “I am very happy with third place and will be back next year!” Even though she explained that she wanted to win, she is not immune to the fascination of triathlon in Roth. “You don’t need to explain this, the entire atmosphere here, the support, the assistance by the Walchshöfer family and all the volunteers and the history of this race are simply unique.”
German champion for the women was Julia Gajer who finished overall fifth in 9:00:50 hours.
