3400 Euros for charity

ROTH. With the Challenge Women Active Day and the Charity Swim on Saturday, as well as the bike and run course recces on Sunday, Challenge Week was recognised, as is tradition, on the first weekend of May. Hundreds of Challenge athletes from all over Germany, Czech Republic, France, Poland and Switzerland took advantage of the training opportunity to prepare for 7 July. Despite the winter temperatures, more laps were logged in the charity swim than last year.

Running, yoga and brunch
The weekend kicked off with the Challenge Women Active Day, which was booked out weeks in advance. More than 40 participants enjoyed Saturday in the Sparkasse Mittelfranken-Süd in Roth with a varied programme. After a short welcome, the participants were divided into two groups. One group received valuable tips from running coach Sandra Mastropietro and ran together with Lauf-ABC or with Smovey trainer Anita Grabendorfer. The second group relaxed, practising Hatha Yoga with ELEMENTS. After the lunch break, the groups switched. After the two-hour sports programme, participants were able to exchange ideas with the experts over a delicious brunch, which was again prepared by Sparkasse Mittelfranken-Süd. "I'm definitely back next year. It was so much fun. I am already looking forward to Challenge Women on the 6 July,” said participant Liz, who was back for a second time. The day was accompanied by information and expo stands from AOK, New Balance, Jentschura and Team Smovey2smile.

Charity swim raising funds for the Hilpoltstein-Roth Hospice Association
During the charity swim in the afternoon in the Roth outdoor swimming pool, the motto was again "Every lap counts". Despite outside temperatures just above freezing, 166 athletes swam a total of 6,375 lanes for a good cause in the heated pool. Alice Walchshöfer, CEO of TEAMCHALLENGE GmbH, explains, "We did not expect so many athletes to brave the water in this weather! That the athletes swam 400 laps more than last year is a remarkable achievement."

Those taking part included local hero, Sebastian Reinwand, who wants to crack the eight-hour mark at DATEV Challenge Roth. Even the Mayors, Ralph Edeldhäusser and Hans Raithel, councilwoman Claudia Lux and ex-professional triathlete Wenke Kujala joined in the swim. A total of 3,187.50 euros were raised for charity, with TEAMCHALLENGE GmbH rounding it up to 3400 euros. The proceeds of the charity swim will go to the Hilpoltstein - Roth Hospice Association. The Association supports the seriously ill, the dying and their families during their difficult times.

The charity swim was supported by Sparkasse Mittelfranken-Süd and Memmert GmbH + Co. KG and Speck Pumpen GmbH + Co.KG. The Roth Municipal Kindergarten provided cakes with warm drinks. Wetsuit manufacturer BlueSeventy offered the participants a test rental, which was very well received. This allowed the athletes to find an optimally fitting suit for the 3.8km swim at DATEV Challenge Roth in July. Also Challenge Women and Challenge-forAll promoted their events during the Challenge Week

Relaxed atmosphere on bike course
The highlight on Sunday was the traditional recce of the original DATEV Challenge Roth bike course. A total of 146 participants and guides, including the DATEV Challenge Roth 2018 runner-up, Andreas Dreitz from Upper Franconia, were divided into groups according to their desired tempo. Six motorcycles led the groups along a 100km route. Many participants not only wanted to check out the course but also wanted to soak up the atmosphere and spend a fun day in the triathlon-crazy district of Roth.

Afterwards, around 80 athletes took the opportunity to run to Büchenbach and back, about 12km along the marathon course, and to test running shoes from New Balance. At the end of the day there was Erdinger Alcohol-Frei for the participants. The bike recce was again organized by Matthias Fritsch and the Professional Endurance Team.
