Frommhold in front

Nils Frommhold is the first man at DATEV Challenge Roth. The German not only exited the swim in the canal as the first man, he also had the best legs during the second bike lap and cracked a lead of five minutes between himself and his closest competitors. But the race is not over yet. He is chased by eight men that are all still within reach of him: last year’s winner Dirk Bockel (2), the strong Timo Bracht, this year without bike breakdown (3), Eneko Llanos from Spain (4), South Africa’s James Cunnama (5), Markus Fachbach (6), Sylvain Sudrie from France (7), Luke McKenzie who finished second on Hawaii (8) and his fellow Australian Joe Gambles.

In the women’s field, the top five are also within six minutes. Rachel Joyce broke away from the long time leader and last year’s winner Caroline Steffen during the last 50 km on the bike. But Steffen in second place, the “flying Dutch girl” Yvonne van Vlerken (3), the best German Diana Riesler (4) and Hawaii-Champion Mirinda Carfrae (5) picked up the chase.
