Clear Advantage for Daniel Ryf – Top Men tightly packed

Does anyone know Anton Lagerbaeck? The Swede with the starting number 758 will go down in history of the 2017 edition of the DATEV Challenge in Roth as the athlete with the fourth fastest swim time. However, due to the fact, that he is in one of the last groups to start, hardly any of the estimated 25000 spectators lining the Main-Danube-Canal will take note of it. Which is why we wish to acknowledge it at this time: Anton Lagebaeck, 44:49 minutes for 3,8 km swim!

Fastest amongst the favorites was Maurice Clavel, who after just 48:29 minutes had solid ground under his feet again. The other favorites, Nils Frommhold and Timo Bracht followed in seconds later. Another professional athlete – making the hosting county proud – is Felix Weiss from Rednitzhembach, who is making his long distance debut.

Shortly after the swim, the women were signaling an anticipated One-Woman-Show with Daniela Ryf (Switzerland) who was the fastest swimmer with a time of 52:34 minutes. However, she was quickly followed by Canadian, Heather Wurtele, only 22 seconds behind and still within visual contact. This first discipline was a small setback for the Swiss athlete, as far as the world best time goes. Last year, as she scraped by Chrissie Wellington’s world best time by a scant four minutes, she was still three minutes faster than this year.
