After the race is before the race

A 3.8 kilometers swim, 180 kilometers on the bike and a marathon in the end – 2014 DATEV Challenge Roth cost the athletes all they had, and the unbelievable heat followed by wind and rain made it even harder for them. But on Monday morning, less than 20 hours after the top athletes had crossed the finish line, all the suffering and pain had vanished. Until noon, as many as 1,000 tickets for next year’s race have already been given out.

One should think that after a race of 226 kilometers athletes would first try to take a rest and relax. Far from it! The first athletes were standing in front of the big pavilion at the Roth Triathlon Park in the early morning. There was a long queue by 9.30 a.m., when the pavilion was opened, and off they went. The boys and girls of the Athletes’ Service had 1,000 tickets for individual participants and 250 tickets for relay teams. In order to avoid that anyone queued up in vain, number cards were given out in the end.

While race manager Leni Bauer provided the waiting athletes with coffee from her mobile coffee bar, everyone in the queue started looking forward to 2015 DATEV Challenge Roth.
