A bit of triathlon for everybody

A bit of triathlon for everybody
The Challenge For All – a family event filled with fun and athletics

Want to feel the triathlon fever? But not the full dose yet? You like endurance sports and someday might go the distance? You are looking for a chance to try this combination of swimming, biking and running? Then come and join the Challenge For All!

Sportif companies, fit families, athletic youngsters, running kids or careful rookies – this endurance competition is suitable for all ages and performance levels. Everybody can hit the water, the bike course and lace up his running shoes. For the 12th year this 2-day competition for young and old is celebrated in and around Roth's public pool.

Newly shaped compound, new bike course and more space: The hobby athletes had almost professional race conditions. Some 800 athletes between 6 and 75 years old from 21 nations entered the races. A very mixed field, which also includes the „Running Team 21“, a team for persons with Down-Syndrom. Inclusion in the truest sense of the word and with a whole lot of fun. There is no difference between handicapped and non-handicapped persons in this event.

The „Challenge Sprint Day“ on Friday night was for ambitious hobby athletes, who faced 750 meters in the water, 20 km on the bike and a 5 km run. The race of the relay teams was also about finding out which company from the area is the fittest.

The „Challenge Family Day“ starts early on Saturday with the usual procedure:

Pre-race-meeting at 8:15 hrs, first starting signal for the „Fitness-Triathlon“ at 9:00 hrs. Till the early afternoon, ambitious, but happy athletes fougth for times and places. The small spin-off of the world's biggest triathlon was supported by a prominent figure, who normally competes on frozen water: Biathlon-world champion Andreas Birnbacher was this event's patron and had come to Roth with his whole family. He switched his usual equipment for a starter pistol.

And there were other celebrity athletes present: Dirk Bockel, winner of DATEV Challenge Roth 2013, who has to sit out this year due to injuries. The bright side of this: It leaves him time to visit the Challenge For All and to stay there. The athlete from Luxemburg was happy with the performances by the next generation of athletes. When he saw the ten year olds swim, he said: „At that age, I was not that good a swimmer. Definitely. If they keep it up, they will all be better than me one day.“

One group of starters is always special: the family relay teams. Relatives, friends, kids, whoever is available can form a team here. Motto: „Anything goes.“

A special focus is once again on the Bambini, who, after 50 meters of swimming and  some running on the grounds of Roth's public pool, get a frenetic welcome with La-ola-waves, when crossing the finish line. And that welcome is offered to everyone, nevermind the place. Bright yellow finisher shirts, a medal and stories to tell. That is fun-triathlon at its purest form!
