Please find below answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding the postponement of DATEV Challenge Roth until September 5th 2021.

Why will DATEV Challenge Roth be postponed from July 4th to September 5th 2021?

Health and safety is our main priority. We believe it won´t be possible to host an event of this size in July, even if the infection rate drops over summer. Due to the long lockdown in Germany and many other countries, many of you can’t train as you normally would and many have been unable to swim train at all for the last couple of months. Many athletes have expressed their concern about the lack of swim-training.  With this postponement we want to make sure you get more time for training and preparation for the 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike and 42.2 km. We hope to be able to reduce your concerns by postponing the race.

We do know that we won’t be able to make everyone happy with this decision. However, we believe this decision is in the best interests of our sport. All we want to do is make sure we can make your dreams come true here in Roth.

Is it guaranteed the race will take place in September 2021?

To be honest: no. In this dynamic pandemic situation, it´s sadly impossible to make any predictions about the situation over the next few months.

We hope these couple of extra months will help us benefit from increased vaccinations all over the world and the situation to relax here over the northern hemisphere summer, to hopefully be able to host a race in September.

We are working on hygiene standards, together with the German Triathlon Union (DTU), to fulfil the dreams of all athletes, fans and volunteers. The hygiene standards are being developed with the help of Agentur APA Brands Solution, who have also been assigned with the production of guidelines for these hygiene standards for sports events and sports associations in Germany by the German Olympic Sports Confederation. The German TÜV will certify these standards once completed.

If, in the worst-case scenario, the race must be cancelled in September, we will let you know as soon as possible. We kindly ask for your understanding that we can’t put a deadline on this due to the constantly changing situation but we assure you we will keep you informed. In the event of a cancellation, you will not be financially disadvantaged, as you’ll have the chance to register for 2022 for free or to get your entry fee back (minus an admin fee).

I have registered for Challenge Roth 2021. What are my options?

Please choose one of the following options before February 23rd 2021:

  • 1.) You can line up at the start on September 5th 2021 and fulfil your dream of racing Roth.
    This option is free of charge for all registered DATEV Challenge Roth 2021 athletes.


  • 2.) You can’t start on September 5th 2021 and you want to start at DATEV Challenge Roth 2022 (July 3rd) instead?
    In this case you can simply re-register for 2022 free of charge.


  • 3.) You don´t want to choose any of the two previous options and withdraw from DATEV Challenge Roth?
    No problem! We will refund your start fee, minus an administration fee.
As a registered athlete, what do I have to do if I want to start in September 2021?

All registered participants have already received an email with further information. With the link provided you can register for the race on September 5, 2021 free of charge with your individual user name and password. There are no additional costs. The entry is not transferable to other participants. Please note that for legal reasons, we cannot simply re-register you. You must re-register for DATEV Challenge Roth 2021 as per the details above.

In the registration system, your original entry fee will be transferred directly to the new registration. While the 90 euro processing fee will be withheld, the new registration fee will be reduced by 90 euro, so no additional costs for you. This procedure also saves you any possible bank fees.

Since we are currently having problems responding to Apple email addresses (e.g.,, ...),we ask you to provide an alternative email address when registering. Many thanks.

As a registered athlete, what do I have to do if I don't start in September 2021 but want to be part of DATEV Challenge Roth 2022?

Are you unable to attend on September 5th and would like to start at DATEV Challenge Roth 2022 (July 3rd)? Then you can register for the next year for free! This works with the link here and your individual user name with your password.

Again, in the registration system, your original entry fee will be transferred directly to the new registration. While the 90 euro processing fee will be withheld, the new registration fee will be reduced by 90 euro, so no additional costs for you. This procedure also saves you any possible bank fees.

What do I have to do if I want to cancel my DATEV Challenge Roth registration in order to get my entry fee back?

Please log in here with your user name and password for this option as well. There you can choose to unsubscribe from DATEV Challenge Roth. You will get your entry fee back minus a processing fee of 90 euros.

What happens if I decide to participate in September 2021 and the race has to be cancelled?

We hope, of course, we can host the race in September and make your dreams come true. If the situation does not allow it and the event has to be cancelled, you still have the following two options:

  • Either you can re-register for DATEV Challenge Roth 2022 free of charge
  • Or you can unsubscribe from DATEV Challenge Roth: We will refund your entry fee minus the 90 euro processing fee.
Do I have to cancel my registration first before I re-register for September 5th 2021 or July 3rd, 2022 like last year?

No, if you want to re-register for September 5th or July 3rd, you don’t have to cancel your registration. Only if you don’t want to take part at DATEV Challenge Roth anymore you can cancel your registration and you will receive your starting fee minus admin fee back after a few weeks.


I want to re-register for September 2021. What happens if I cannot take part because of personal reasons?

If you decide to re-register for the race on September 2021 you have the chance to cancel your registration until September 4th if you have booked the Entry Protection Plan. Then you will get your money back (minus administration fee) and you will have the chance to register for the race on 3rd July 2022. If you have not booked the Entry Protection Plan you can cancel the registration until June 30th and you will get your administration fee (minus admin fee) back.

I have booked an all-inclusive package for 2021. What will happen to this?

If you booked an all-inclusive package when you registered for 2021, this will automatically be transferred, either to the race in September 2021 or to 2022, depending on which event you choose. When will DATEV Challenge Roth 2022 take place?

The event will take place on July 3, 2022.

I know organisers have a difficult time during this time and would like to support the race. How can I do this?

As you know, we are a purely family business. The 2020 cancellation hit us hard. We would like to thank you again for the great solidarity and support that has really helped us.

In addition, all athletes who voluntarily donate 100 euros or more when paying the entry fee automatically receive a pre-registration right for two entries within the next 10 years at DATEV Challenge Roth. This only applies to registered participants. Thank you in advance for your support.

My donation last year gave me the right to pre-register for two events over the next ten years. What happens to it?

We are very grateful for your donation of 100 euros, which automatically gives you the right to pre-register for two entries within the next 10 years. Since you can already enter 2022 without using this pre-registration right, the right will be postponed by one year. It therefore runs from 2023 to 2032. You will automatically receive an email before registration opens in 2022. This right still applies to all athletes who would like to forego 100 euros or more in the current situation. However, only for registered starters of DATEV Challenge Roth.

I am not a registered athlete, but I still want to help the organizer. What can I do?

We are very grateful for any support – every little helps. Have a look at our Challenge Shop. There are great quality products. With every purchase you support DATEV Challenge Roth.

I have booked private accommodation/vacation/flights. What happens to them?

In this case, please contact the supplier with whom you booked the respective service directly. We have no influence on contracts with third parties, i.e. other organisations, service providers, airlines, etc. and cannot pay for them.

Can I still register for DATEV Challenge Roth on September 5, 2021?

DATEV Challenge Roth 2021 was fully booked within a few seconds. At the moment, we cannot predict how many participants who have already registered will take the opportunity to compete in September. If there is still capacity available and the COVID restrictions allow, we reserve the right to open the registration at short notice.

What about the other events around DATEV Challenge Roth?

What is the 90 euro processing fee retained for?

A total of eight permanent employees work on each race all year round and do everything they can to provide athletes from all over the world with unique, lifetime memories in the Roth triathlon dream factory. We are there for you all year round and have to make advance payments in many areas, pay rents for our warehouses and our office and commission services that are required throughout the year. Unfortunately, there is no insurance against such events. The processing fee only partially covers these costs.

When will the regular registration for DATEV Challenge Roth 2022 open?

A date for registration in 2022 has not yet been set. At the moment we cannot say how many registered athletes will decide to re-register for 2022, so we do not know how many entries are still available. As soon as we know more, we will inform you through our regular channels.

What will happen to the European and German championships?

With the postponement of DATEV Challenge Roth 2021, the EM and DM will also move to the new date on September 5th. Your registration for the Championships is automatically valid for September 5th.

Will there be additional virtual offers during the year, similar to the Dreams cannot be Cancelled Run powered by DATEV?

Where can I find my user name for online registration?

You can find your user name in the info mail from February 16th. If you don't remember it, you can send an email to


I forgot my login password. What should I do?

If you have forgotten your password, you can request a new one by entering your user ID when registering online. You will then receive an email with a new password. If you have technical problems, you can contact directly.

I have booked an International Entry and Travel package with the Challenge Roth Tours agents what do I need to do?

Choose if you would like to race on September 5, 2021 or July 3 2022 and enter your preferred race and then contact your agent to transfer your accommodation and tour booking to your new dates.

What happens to my orders in the Challenge Shop? Can I still order?

The Challenge Shop is still there for you. We will continue to process all orders immediately. Your order supports your favourite race and you receive some great apparel. Orders over 100 euros within Germany and over 200 euros worldwide offer free shipping. Shipping is carbon-neutral with DHL Go Green.

What happens to booked services, such as the pasta party or the DTU day license?

Services such as booking the pasta party or booking the DTU day license when registering for the race are automatically postponed to the race you decide on. If you decide to participate in 2022, we will automatically transfer the two services there as well. If you do not need a day license or your booked pasta party tickets, you will get the money back at check-in before the race.
