Hot spots

The hot spots of the Challenge are waiting ...

"The fascination of triathlon"

n Roth has been the attribute of one of the greatest sports events in Bavaria for many years - also in the ffth year of the Challenge Roth. A mega triathlon party will be celebrated on July 12, 2009. About 4,000 athletes will take place in this year's "best old race". In the meantime Roth has become famous all over the world for its unique atmosphere, because such fascination and enthusiasm can be found in no other long-distance race. More than 150,000 spectators will cheer on the participants from more than 42 countries. We offer world-class triathlon and respectable amateur performances at the same time. Along the triathlon courses real "hot spots" have been established over the years, where the fans can enjoy triathlon at its best. In the first light of dawn, at 6.00 a.m. (start of the first group at 6.20 a.m.) at the Heuberg landing stage near Hilpoltstein a ritual begins for 10,000 fans and the athletes.

Actually the swim start at this early hour is a real "must"

for every sports fan. Those who make their way from the swim start directly to the Solarer Berg in Hilpoltstein, can be there in time to watch the first group of cyclists. There's an atmosphere like at the Tour de France, which is almost an understatement, since the famous "Tour" could still get some inspiration from the enormous crowds of Challenge spectators at the Solarer Berg. The next stop for all triathlon fans should be the Selingstädter Berg near Heideck. From 7.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be lots of fun watching the athletes, along with music, food and drink.

Then you might join the crowds of spectators in Thalmässing

since here a huge "fan club" has been established in the past few years. Between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. spectators are in a tremendous mood, to the delight of the athletes. A place that is definitely worth having a look at is the Kalvarienberg in Greding, where the cyclists are often dripping with sweat. Nevertheless, the athletes seem take the nasty slope almost with ease, since the fans really help to "carry" the participants up the hill between 7.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. Along the Kalvarienberg local clubs have put up aid stations for the athletes and provide food and drink for the spectators, so that everybody can fortify themselves. Those who like Bavarian "Gemütlichkeit" will like the "beer mile" in Eckersmühlen (7 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.). There are tables and benches along the bike course where the spectators can sit down and have a drink. Since this is kind of provocative for the cyclists, it sometimes happens that the athletes take a glass of beer from one of the fans, which is an additional attraction.

Along the "new" running course two brand new hot spots popped up last year:

sports club will keep the spectators and the athletes in good mood at the Leerstetten sluice gate, and the Schwand carnival club will do the same at the picturesque "Schwanen" inn. So the athletes will get some welcome tailwind already on the first third of the running course. Mayor Robert Pfann and his team will do their very best to turn the area around turning mark 1 into an unforgettable experience.

Apart from all the hot spots along the course, the undisputed highlight of the race is the finish-line area at the new Roth Triathlon Park in the former garden show area

There will be lots of fun and action from about 1.00 p.m. until the fireworks at 10.30 p.m. Indescribable scenes of joy, interviews and supporting acts leave a fascinating impression every year - that's the fascination of triathlon in Roth!
