Planning a Season
Well it is that time of year when we start to plan for the next season of training and racing. The key to success in any season is a solid training and racing plan. I spend the last months of every year planning my season 12 months ahead. It is a process that is relatively simple but with the addition of new events and new training venues it is important to have a plan so things can be put in place and schedules set.
For me the key to any season is this plan. I need to know exactly what events I will be competing in, and then plan my travel and training parameters around this base. I think this has been the key to my success as I never add events to my season during the year. My schedule is set, my training is built and I begin my season.
I have been extremely successful with my career. I win 88% of the events I compete in and podium 98% of the races I compete in. In the last 8 years I have only finished outside the top 3 in 7 events from 87 starts. This is due to my planning and strategies that are built at this time of year. It is important that you work closely with a coach or mentor at this time of year and even if you are not training, you organise the season and build the plan now that you will implement during the season. It is great to have a visual of where you are heading in the up coming season. You draw strength and motivation from this. You can also get your head around the goals you have set and begin visualising them.
So, now is the time to look at this and start giving yourself the time to plan. Gt online and look at the available events and plan when and where you will compete. You can structure this around your work schedule and then sit down with your coach and build the program to achieve your set goals. A coach can also identify if your season ambitions are over whelming and suggest areas of change if necessary. Take the time to do this. You will be happy with yourself when it is done and will start the season ahead of the game.
Safe holidays everyone and have a wonderful Christmas and New Years. Next Macca Talks we will discuss the importance of an early season base program and what type of work to implement at this time of year.
Safe training, Macca
