......................................................................................................

Well the season is winding down and the planning is beginning for next year. I have had a great season and am happy to finally win the Ironman World Championship, which took me 5 years to conquer. It was the single race in the World that was tough for me to master. I think the difficulty for me was my heavy racing schedule and my difficulty learning about my body's requirements in high humidity. Now that I have mastered that, the event became much easier for me and culminated this year with my first victory.

My coaching staff and I are now looking at my 2008 season. We have commenced our planning and have begun negotiations and discussions with race directors al around the World. Obviously Germany and the USA are two markets I like to spend a lot of time in, and setting tough goals in these markets are what we always look at doing.

Last year my aim was to break the World Record in Roth and Win Hawaii. I went close in Roth but still missed the mark set by Luc Van Lierde in 1996. It is a brilliant record and will require a deep solid field to get near this mark. I am always looking for challenges to test myself and see what I am capable of doing. Next year will be no different, and we are looking at options now on what we can do that no other athlete has been able to do before. This is what keeps me motivated. The World Record is still something that I would like to achieve as is running a very fast marathon.

Obviously defending my Ironman World Championship crown is the primary objective next season. It has been quite sometime since anybody has been ale to successfully defend their World title, and that is what I intend doing. I am really looking forward to it. Hawaii has really grown on me as a race. I have learned to love this event and enjoy racing on the lava fields. I think I have mastered what I need to do to be successful here, and that is where I draw my strength from. I really look forward to racing everyone again next year in Kona.

Anyway, the winter is coming and training gets more and more difficult. I wish everybody a safe and sound winter I look forward to seeing you all again next season. The Challenge Brand will expand even further next year with the inclusion of Challenge France on May 24. This event is going to be conducted by Guy Hemmerlin who is a great friend of mine, and an incredible asset to the sport of Triathlon in Europe . This race will grow to be one of the premier events in Europe with such great people supporting it. I wish everyone racing in France all the best   and enjoy the first Challenge race in France . You are a part of history so embrace the moment and enjoy the day.

I am about to leave my base in Colorado and return to Australia for a couple of months of sunshine. This makes training much easier and it is great to see my family and friends after being 8 months away.@   Upon writing this blog, the father of the Quelle Challenge Roth, Herbert Wahlshofer, passed away. My condolences go out to the entire family, and to all the Team at Challenge. Herbert was a beautiful man and he will be dearly missed.

Kind regards,
Macca
